Welcome to the online demesne of katherine kerr of the Hermitage, sometime Scots Borderer, wordsmith, mistress of the page both electronic and printed, and ever-hopeful reveller.
I am pleased to have a home for my notes, research and musings on these Current Middle Ages here at the edge of the Knowne Worlde. (And if that sentence makes you blink, you probably need to know more about the Society for Creative Anachronism, the international historical research and recreation group, of which I am a member.)
If you'd like to talk about any of the areas covered on this Website, with questions, comments or suggestions, lay on! (That is, email me.) The original navigation is creaking a bit under the load, but the site search function at left should get to you the right place if you use the right term....
- Market Wallets: A period alternative to canvas tote bags, PDF handout
- Spindle Whorls: an easy A&S project, once you know what you're supposed to be looking at
- Questing: a class hand-out (PDF) with a quick run-down on how to put together a successful quest within an SCA context
Got a heap more stuff to come, just gotta find time to be able to write it up: a persona Quest and a play and feast dressing (as in front-of-house, not clothes) for Canterbury Faire; my work on the Barony's Pentalathon Challenge involving (so far) more spindle whorls, a necklace a la Anne Boleyn, coif decoration; a scale-model sounding line and my first attempt at four-strand braiding; my custard entry for admission to the Guild of Custardeers; and other items in my growing list.
The AS50 Challenge has been a lot of fun and inspiration. If you didn't hear about it, take a look at what it inspired me to do over the space of seven years or so:
